You don’t need a man to fix it

You don’t need a man to fix it

Laurence has been away since Monday. He gets back today.

In that time, the curtain rail in “Talitha’s room” fell out of the wall and I couldn’t figure out a way to get it back in so I went to bed at 7 with her in our room since the cot would have been a headache to move.

How on earth am I going to raise a girl who doesn’t believe you need a man to fix it?

Haha, well, I’m sure there are some things you can fix that your man can’t. Just let her see you do THOSE things. I feel you though, I get irate with myself when I can’t do something and end up waiting for my husband.

Ummm, I can fix grammatical errors? 😉

Oh dear. If it’s any consolation I’m very similar. We revamped our bedroom recently and, although I sanded down the furniture, painted it, decoupaged it etc, actually replacing the handles failed me and I had to get the husband in to help. Ah well. Team work and all that…

You sound a lot more competent than I. I’m not even sure what “decoupaged” means! :S

True. My mum would definitely know how to fix this mess.

I think it’s because many girls are never taught the basics of DIY that they do actually need a man to fix things. Personally, I’d love to take a class that teaches basic DIY – changing plugs, screwing things into walls, fixing leaky taps. Just the basics that you need – life skills I guess.

Yes, I told Laurence he needs to teach Talitha that stuff…though I should learn too…

Well, it depends on who you are and who the man is. Sometime he needs the woman to fix it. Adele, I know you understand where I’m coming from 🙂

Haha, I am actually pretty good at most DIY but I wouldn’t attempt to fix that either as it would more than likely involve power tools and I’m not allowed to use those anymore since the time I went a bit cray with the drill whilst trying to put a mirror up, luckily the mirror covered the ten too many holes I put in the wall! x

I laughed at “ten too many holes”. Points for effort though!

I was actually talking about just this with a friend recently, and dare I admit it, but while I CAN do a lot of what I let my hubby do, I let go and let him do it because I just don’t want to, not that I can’t! When you’re focussing on your little one, I think it’s ok to give yourself a break from trying to do it all. Your girl will grow up to be a strong, independent woman, because her mother is – just because she lets someone else do the bits of pesky DIY etc that she doesn’t feel like doing won’t mean that she couldn’t do it if she felt like it! (my sister carries drill bits in her handbag, just in case!)

Well, I genuinely didn’t know how to fix the thing but then I suspect that there’s also a big element of not wanting to! Drill bits in her handbag?! :S

I’m with you there. Breaking things is a specialty of mine. How do you think the curtain rail “fell out” of the wall? 😉
